| Hi guys!
On Sat 7/18, two of my cousins and I went to watch Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy. It was played by the San Francisco Symphony and was totally packed! I wanted to see it because I've been interested in watching an orchestra performance for a while and I was thinking 'why not this one?'. The opening performance was "Liberi Fatali" (FF VIII) and the encore was "One Winged Angel" (FF VII). Along with the playing, there was a large projector screen showing clips from the games. We even saw the original composer, Nobuo Uematsu on stage. Most of the music was from VII and VIII I think. Their newest piece was "Man with the Machine Gun" (FF VIII). There was a surprising number of adults there too lol. Not too many people cosplayed....I only noticed one Squall (not too good really), Irvine (omg it was a leather outfit...must of been expensive and how authentic lol), and I think a Lulu (or I think I saw a girl in a dress full of belts >_>). There was also a girl in a green dress....I wonder if she was dressed as Rydia...totally not sure about that. Unfortunately, we arrived a little late so we were unable to purchase the programs (a cool looking coffee table type book...that was $30 @_@), we only bought the concert CD. >_<
Hm, I only have 3 complaints about the show: 1. There was a guitarist doing two songs (one was "Vamo' alla Flamenco")....he wasn't that good. 2. They replayed some of the same clips from games....really they could of showed us more gameplay or something. It was especially noticable in all the VII and VIII songs. If the footage was providede from Square-Enix they surely could of afforded to show more. 3. There were 3 pieces that required singers ("Liberi Fatali", "Opera "Maria and Draco"", and "One Winged Angel") and there were only 4 singers (2 males, 2 females). I think they should have had a choir/more people....other concerts had choirs and it would have made the songs a lot more dramatic.
All in all, it was fun. I'm not sure if I'd go to another Distant Worlds concert unless they had different music. Yay, I finally got to see my first orchestra performance though! I wonder if I'd go to a classical music one...
That's it for now! -Mel L

| Hi everyone,
Now that I got my PC fixed again, I need to start updating things...like my Facebook...and maybe getting a new camera to take pics and put them on there. I guess I also need to look up some friends/classmates lol. So if anyone's reading this and looking for me, my Facebook email is ffan89@yahoo.com!
Hm, I should probably delete my MySpace account...seems kinda useless...

| Hi guys, On Sat my desktop died on me. I used it for a few hours then decided to leave it on while watching SNL. When I come back, it's off and now I can't get it to turn back on anymore. Damn this sucks! Hopefully my uncle can find what's wrong with it and I can get it fixed because I don't really want to buy a new one. >_< Anyways if anyone's doing anything fun please call me because I'm not sure how often I'm gonna be able to check my email. For now I spend my time reading or watching DVDs I haven't seen in a while. I'm so bored >_<. Wow, it's been a while since I posted huh? Lol I should post more. And that's it for now! -Mel L | | |
| Hi guys,
So it's been a few weeks since I arrived in HK. The weather is pretty shitty since it's the rainy season so it's usually constantly cloudy (think 4 or 5 pm dimness during winter time). Usually it rains everyday and there is lightening every other day >__>. Oh yeah and sometimes it's so windy that it seems to be raining sideways...raindrops sometimes seem to hover in midair for a few seconds...interesting sight. The first weekend here there was a lot of flash flooding. Some roads were completely blocked off and there were so many landslides that even now people are advised to not go hiking. Temperatures have been in the 80s so it's hot and humid...eww.
I seem to have arrived at the worst time with the food scares around. So far it's been found in chickens and ducks in HK and China. Japanese food is also off the menu since some people got food poisoning from it. Lots of places still have chicken though, such as McD's and KFC. My parents say it's probably frozen and from Brazil. I notice meat comes from all around the world here, from Canada to parts of Europe and Australia. Anyways, we've been eating lots of pork since HK people have never really been into eating beef.......I'm so going to IN-N-OUT or getting beef pho when I get back....hell yeah. Oh and tapioca drinks too...they never have been too popular in HK people prefer drinks with red beans in them.
More random things I've noticed: 1) Buses now have seatbelts but no one ever uses them. 2) Haggen-Daz seems to be the only big chain ice cream store (they are everywhere!)...too bad their ice cream is expensive... 3) My parents say the area of HK we live in is the "international area" because people of many races live here...I think they're right lol.
That's it for now, -Mel L
